HOLY SPIRIT

What Is His Purpose?

Jesus is Speaking In John 16: 7-11, Before He Went To The Cross.

JOHN 16: 7-11

Amplified Version Holy Bible

(7) However, I AM telling you nothing but the TRUTH when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away.  Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will Not come to you (into close fellowship with you); but if I go away, I will send Him to you (to be in close fellowship with you).

 (8) And when He comes, He will convict and convince the world and bring demonstration to it about sin and about righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing with God)  and about judgement.

 (9) About sin , because they do not believe in Me (trust in, rely on, and adhere to Me);

(10) About righteousness, (uprightness of heart and right standing with God), because I go to My Father, and you will see Me no longer;

(11) About Judgement, because the ruler (evil genius, prince) of this world (Satan) is judged and condemned and sentence already is passed upon him.

WHEN HOLY SPIRIT COMES WHAT ELSE DID JESUS SAY HIS JOB IS?

JOHN 16: 13-15

Amplified Version Holy Bible

(13) But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-Giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all Truth (the whole, full Truth).  For He will not speak His own message (on His own authority); but He will tell whatever He hears (from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him), and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come (that will happen in the future).

(14) He will honor and glorify Me, because He will take care of (receive, draw upon) what is Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you.

(15) Everything that the Father has is Mine.  That is what I meant when I said that He (the Spirit) will take the things that are Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you.

After the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus

ACTS 1: 3-5

Amplified Version Holy Bible

(3) To them also He (Jesus) showed Himself alive after His passion (His suffering in the garden and on the cross) by (a series of) many convincing demonstrations (unquestionable evidences and infallible proofs), appearing to them during forty days and talking (to them) about the things of the kingdom of God.

(4) And while being in their company and eating at the table with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for what the Father had promised, Of which (He said) you have heard Me speak.

(5) For John baptized with water, but not many days from now you shall be baptized with (placed in, introduced into) the Holy Spirit.

ACTS 1: 8-9

Amplified Version Holy Bible

(8) BUT YOU SHALL RECEIVE POWER (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you SHALL be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth.

(9) AND WHEN HE had said this, even as they were looking up, and a cloud received and carried Him away out of their sight.

Read Acts 1: 13-14

HERE COMES HOLY SPIRIT

ACTS 2: 1-7

Amplified Version  Holy Bible

(1) AND WHEN the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all assembled together in one place.

(2) When Suddenly there came a sound from heaven like the rushing of a violent tempest blast, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting.

(3) And there appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were separated and distributed and which settled on each one of them.

(4)  And they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues), as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression (in each tongue in appropriate words).

(5) Now there were then residing in Jerusalem Jews, devout and God-fearing men from every country under heaven.

(6) And when this sound was heard the multitude came together and they were astonished and bewildered, because each one heard them (the apostles) speaking in his own (particular) dialect.

(7) And they were beside themselves with amazement, saying, Are not all these who are talking Galileans?

(8) Then how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own (particular) dialect to which we were born?

MY CLOSING COMMENTS:

Jesus told us that Holy Spirit was going to come and what His purpose was before the Cross and Resurrection.  Then after the Cross and Resurrection, He appeared to the Disciples for forty days talking and eating with them.  He leaves in a cloud into heaven…remember He has to leave earth and go to heaven before Holy Spirit can come.

Holy Spirit comes on the day of Pentecost with a splendid  entry to take Jesus place on the earth by infusing Jesus believers with Holy Spirit and then Peter standing up quotes Joel 2:28-32 That prophesied of Holy Spirit power, authority and purpose.

Go over to 1 Corinthians Chapter 14 and read the questions and answers that were asked of Paul the Apostle as to how, the believer, is to behave with the Holy Spirit in occupation of their vessel.  We are to be orderly, considerate, and in control of the Holy Spirit so as not to cause confusion.  Neither are we to be afraid of and to shut down the Holy Spirit when it is appropriate and in order to edify and uplift the church.
